By Alexander Concepcion, Taco Street Locating. Checked Oct 2, 2026 against each property’s own website (linked in the table).
Five of the ten Austin-area buildings checked on Oct 2, 2026 state renters insurance is required, and five more list it as a possible requirement, a fee-sheet line or a move-in item. Listed minimums are $100,000 of liability at Hillside at Parmer, MAA Windmill Hill and Mueller Flats, and $300,000 at Alexan Riverbend.
What do Austin apartments say about renters insurance? (checked Oct 2, 2026)
| Community | Insurance wording, as the property words it | Minimum coverage or related detail |
|---|---|---|
| The Waller (Symphony Square) (FAQ) | “renter’s insurance is required for all lease holders” | Minimum not stated on the page I read |
| The Howard (FAQ) | “Renter’s insurance is required for all residents.” | Minimum not stated on the page I read |
| Hillside at Parmer (FAQ) | “Residents must obtain and maintain renter’s insurance” | “a minimum of $100,000 personal liability coverage”; “If the resident has an pet, their policy must cover pets and animal bites.” ResidentShield is named as a provider |
| MAA Windmill Hill (property page) | “All leaseholders are required to maintain liability insurance in the amount of $100,000 for the term of the lease.” | $100,000 for the term of the lease |
| Mueller Flats (deposits page) | “Renter’s Insurance is required.” The property offers Resident Shield | “a minimum of $100,000 personal liability insurance”; “If insurance isn’t provided then a $10 master policy fee is added to your account monthly.” |
| Alexan Riverbend (floor plans) | The fee sheet lists “RENTERS INSURANCE” | “$300,000 minimum liability” |
| The Post at Parmer (floor plans) | Residents “may be required to maintain renters insurance or obtain a liability waiver, if offered” | Minimum not stated on the page I read |
| The Asher (fee schedule) | Residents “may be required to maintain renters insurance or obtain a liability waiver, if available” | Minimum not stated on the page I read |
| Marq Uptown (resident access page) | Move-in steps include “Sending our team confirmation of your utilities accounts and renters insurance” | Minimum not stated on the page I read |
| Tisdale at Lakeline Station (site) | Key pickup requires “proof of rental insurance” | Minimum not stated on the page I read |
“Required” and “may be required” are different promises, so read the wording column before you assume. Only four buildings print a coverage amount, and the amounts are liability minimums, not the value of your belongings. Mueller Flats is the only one here that states a charge if you do not supply a policy. “Minimum not stated” means the page I read did not say.

What should I ask about renters insurance before I sign?
Ask for the minimum liability amount, whether the lease requires the property to be listed as an additional interested party, whether a pet changes the policy requirements, and what the monthly charge is if you do not provide proof. Hillside at Parmer says a policy must cover pets and animal bites if you have a pet, and Mueller Flats asks for the declarations page of an outside policy at or before move-in. The costs on your quote add up with the ones in Austin apartment move-in costs.
