By Alexander Concepcion, Taco Street Locating. Checked Oct 2, 2026 against each property’s own website (linked in the table).

At eight Houston communities checked on Oct 2, 2026, pet rent ran $20 to $30 a month per pet, one-time pet fees $250 to $500, and pet deposits $200 to $500 where listed. Most allow two pets. Every one that publishes breed rules restricts some dog breeds, and Citadel and Grey House list a 99 lb weight limit.

What do Houston apartments charge for pets? (checked Oct 2, 2026)

Community Pet limit and weight Pet deposit and fee (one-time) Monthly pet rent Breed rules as listed
1810 Main (2026 fee breakdown) Two pets per apartment $300 refundable deposit and $300 non-refundable fee per pet; $30 per pet yearly pet screening $25 per pet Restricted breeds include Akita, Alaskan Malamute, Chow, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd, Great Dane, Husky, Pit Bull types, Rottweiler, Saint Bernard and wolf-dog hybrids, and mixes
The Star (fee schedule dated 4/6/2026) Two-pet limit $500 deposit and $300 non-refundable fee per pet $20 per pet “Contact the office for breed restriction information”
Citadel (site) Cats and dogs up to 99 lb; two indoor pets $350 fee per pet $25 per pet Excluded dog breeds include Akita, Alaskan Malamute, American Pit Bull Terrier, Chow, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd, Rottweiler and Siberian Husky, and mixes; a veterinarian letter is required
The Ivy (site) Up to 2 pets per apartment $500 one-time fee per pet $30 per pet Generally prohibited breeds include Akita, American Staffordshire and Bull Terrier types, Presa Canario, Chow Chow, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd, Great Dane, Husky and Malamute breeds, and Rottweiler
Grey House at River Oaks (site) Max 2 pets; the amenities page says max weight 99 lb each, while the breed note says up to 60 lb, so confirm with the office $250 refundable deposit and $250 non-refundable fee per pet $25 per pet Restricted breeds include Pit Bull and Staffordshire Terriers, Presa Canarios, Rottweilers and Akitas
Broadstone EaDo (site) Two pets per apartment home $200 deposit and $300 fee $25 per pet Not listed on the page I read; the site says to call for the complete pet policy
8181 Med Center (amenities) Maximum of two $400 pet deposit $25 per pet Restricted breeds include Pit Bull and Staffordshire Terriers, Rottweilers, Chows, Akitas, Wolf-Hybrids, Alaskan Malamutes, Presa Canarios and Doberman Pinschers; further limits may apply
Metro Midtown (pet policy), 2350 Bagby St, 77006 Not stated on the page I read $500 pet fee, one-time $25 per pet Excluded dog breeds include Akita, Alaskan Malamute, American Pit Bull Terrier, Bullmastiff, Chow, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd, Rottweiler and Siberian Husky, and mixes; no exotic animals; a veterinarian letter is required

Amounts are per pet unless a row says otherwise, and “not listed” means the page I read did not say. 8181 Med Center’s page says its breed restrictions and deposit do not apply to qualified assistance animals, and service animals are generally handled separately from pet rules, so ask each office how it treats a service or support animal. Compare the total, not just the rent: at two pets, a $25 rent and a $350 fee cost $50 a month and $700 up front before any deposit.

How do I add up pet costs at a Houston apartment?

Multiply the one-time fee and any deposit by the number of pets, then add the monthly rent for each pet over a 12-month lease. For example, The Star’s listed numbers for two pets come to $1,600 in one-time deposits and fees and $40 a month. Ask for a written pet addendum before you apply, and ask whether a deposit is refundable.
